After the FIre

Written after I burned my house down with a single candle lit for ambiance.

After the Fire by KDRouse c. 2012
I did a lot of living in this room
It witnessed my devotion and questions of existence
How I could go the distance in a gamut of emotion
I did a lot of living in this room

I did a lot of living in this room
I loved you in the shadows dancing from the fire
We stayed up 'til all hours and never did feel tired
I did a lot of living in this room

I did a lot of living in this town
Learning variations on a heartache                                                       Standing at the crossroads
How far it is to be undone                                                                       Fighting how the river runs
I did a lot of living in this town

Sighs inside the minutes
While away the hours
Rhythm of existence
Wise and waning powers
I did a lot of living in this room
I did a lot of living in this room

Heaven Please Shine

I wrote this in Carolina Beach. Sad times.

Heaven Please Shine              KD Rouse c. 10/07

I’m feeling ‘bout as worthless as a worn out shoe
I don’t know what I’m gonna do
Heaven won’t you shine your light on me
I could be in paradise and still feel bad
I lost the best friend that I ever had
Heaven won’t you shine your light on me

The sun is rising as it sets
With no room for regrets
But tell that to this aching heart of mine
So shine     Please shine     Please shine

I don’t like to complain but it’s still not clear
What it is that we’re doing here
Mercy in the world is hard to see
Children go hungry and we still have wars
We don’t know what we are fighting for
Heaven only love can set us free

I’ve thought a lot/I don’t know about you
What it is we’re supposed to do
Heaven won’t you shine your light on us
Once I was blind/ Now I can’t see
If there is a place for me
Heaven won’t you shine your light
Oh Please

My Town

This song is inspired by riding down Broad Street in Winston-Salem, NC.

My Town  by KD Rouse c.1998
If you were to ride down this street in my town
At the top of the hill and all the way down
You would see the city lights shining like stars
And for once in the day you'd be glad that you are in my town

Every thing is fine in my town
Every thing is fine in my town

Oh but nothing seems to change
We waited for the deluge and all it did was rain
Oh I cannot complain
Every thing is fine in my town

Everybody's talking/I'm not sure what they're saying
I think about leaving/I think about praying
The moon is silver/One time it was red
I think it was December/We wondered what it said in my town
Every thing is fine in my town
Every thing is fine in my town

Oh, but nothing seems to change
We waited for the deluge and all it did was rain
Oh, I cannot complain
Every thing is fine in my town
Oh yeah
Every thing is fine in my town
